Little Hagia Sophia Mosque. The mosque is located in Little Hagia Sophia quarter of Istanbul. Little Hagia Sophia, formerly the Church of the Saints Sergius and Bacchus (Greek: Eκκλησία τῶν Άγίων Σεργίου καί Βάκχου ὲν τοῖς Ὸρμίσδου), was constructed by the East Roman Emperor Justin I and his wife Theodora between the years 527 and 536 and was converted into a mosque in 1497 during the reign of Bayezid II by Huseying Aga who was the Chief Harem Eunuch of Topkapi Palace. Block stones in 3 meters to 1,8 meters were used in its foundation. It has octagonal shaped dome. It is known as the oldest Byzantine Period buildings of Istanbul. It has a wide garden with 24 rooms in south of the edifice and in the middle there is a Madrasa built on the name of Huseyin Aga, the founder of the mosque. The Madrasa was restored by Yesevi Foundation and granted to the service of Turkish Handicrafts. Nearby is Kesikbas Huseyin Aga Tomb. The building was restored twice in 1836 and 1956, its various copper parts and plasters were renewed and its single minaret was repaired considerably.
Sokollu Mehmet Pasha Mosque is an Ottoman Mosque located in Sehit Mehmet Pasha slope in Kadirga, Istanbul. The building, which was designed by Mimar Sinan, consists of a mosque and social complex. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful works of Sinan. It was built in 1571 by the wife of Serbian origin Sokollu Mehmet Pasa, who served as Grand Vizier of three Sultans. This social complex is noted for its architecturally challenging location on a steep slope, which is used in planning. This social complex has entrance from three streets and three different elevations by stairs, which gives it an unusual architectural design. There is a marble fountain in the yard. It is surrounded by the sections of the madrasah. The mosque is decorated with Iznik tiles and original calligraphy. The mosque was constructed by Mimar Sinan for Sokollu Mehmet Pasa in an area surrounded with 2 meters wall in Kadirga slope between Sultanahmet and Little Hagia Sophia. It is on a sloped area with its single minaret and single dome. It is one of two mosques bearing the name of Sokollu Mehmet Pasha in Istanbul. The other is Sokollu Mehmet Pasa Mosque in Azapkapi.
